For each gift idea, I’ve included a link to the online store where you can currently buy it for the best price. Please note that this list should be considered a work-in-progress! I’ll be updating soon with more ideas as I find them, so please feel free to make any suggestions via the comment box below, and I’ll add your URL if appropriate.

Please make sure to look around at some of the other gift ideas you’ll find in other articles on this site, and please leave a comment to tell me what you think so that I can make the site better.

Travel Gift Lists from Around the Web:

There are kabillions of gift idea lists out there, but most of them are absolute junk (eHow and Suite101, anyone?). Here are some of the lists I’ve found that actually provide marginally unique and good ideas:

  • Not surprisingly, the Wall Street Journal has a decent article with ideas for travel gifts– they tend to be more for the luxury high-end traveller than the student backpacker, but hey, this is the WSJ right?
  • The Seattle Times newspaper columnist took a slightly different approach: suggesting travel gifts that will give back to the people and places you love to visit. I like that idea. If you’re a good person, you should buy one of the gifts she suggests.
  • is probably one of the spammiest websites on the interweb, yet Google seems to love them. Anyway, if you agree with Google, here’s a link to their list of travel gift ideas.
  • Aol’s has a list of kid-friendly travel gifts. I have to say, I like this approach as well: traveling with kids can be stressful, and nothing improves your chances for a little piece and quiet more than a new toy to play with!

Contribute a Travel Gift Idea:

Do you have your own ideas for the very best Travel Gifts? Anything that would make the life of a frequent traveler better? If so, I’d like to hear it! Thank you in advance for your contribution.

Welcome from Traveling Matt! This website is a distillation of all the wisdom(?) I've accumulated from traveling over 500,000 miles to 42 different countries (using plane, train, bus, car, yacht, and foot!) as a corporate business traveler, backpacker, and occasionally even for a bit of rest and relaxation! These are some of my favorite items for making the life of a traveler just a little bit easier.
